Year 3 - Miss Green

My Name is Miss Green I am so lucky and excited to be the class teacher in Year 3! This is my first year teaching at Hindley Junior and Infant School and I could not be happier to be joining this amazing school. It is so nice to support Year 3 at the start of their journey into Key Stage 2 and I am excited to see how the children progress from the start of the year to the end. Working alongside me will be Mrs Else to support the children’s learning.

In class, these include -

Autumn 1 Term

In Maths we are focusing on number and place value, addition and subtraction and multiplication and division. Our class author is Roald Dahl and this term we are focusing our writing on retelling the story of the Enormous Crocodile. In Science we will be studying different types of Rocks and their properties. This term we are focusing on our recovery curriculum to support Year 3 due to the time they had off school due to lockdown. This includes recapping Year 2 Maths and English skills and expectations.

Homework will be posted on Class Dojo every Monday. Homework will include spellings, times tables and reading. It is important for children to practise and learn their times tables and spellings to become consistent within their Maths and English by strengthening their knowledge. Children will take a short test the following Monday of the set spellings and times tables that have been set.

We communicate with parents through Class Dojo. All Year 3 parents are currently registered so please take the time to check Class Dojo for updates.

As a school we expect children to read 5 times a week. Reading Dairies must be brought into school every day. Please sign to indicate that you have read with your child daily. Children who have read 5 times each week will be entered into a draw to win a prize! When your child has completed their book please write ‘New book please’ in their reading diaries.

Times tables knowledge is important and by the end of Year 3 we expect that the children to have recall of 2x,3x,4x,5x,8x and 10x tables. We will also challenge the children to learn their 6x! We will have a weekly times table test. Our children use TTRS to support times tables knowledge.

Spelling is taught through the RWinc Spelling scheme but year group expectation words can be found in the Download section below.

PE is on a Wednesday and Friday. PE kits need to be in school and left here until half term. Your child needs a white T shirt, blue shorts and black pumps in a PE bag all named.

If you provide your child with a drinking bottle, then please remember that it must be filled with water only.

I aim to provide your child with the best learning journey during their time in Year 3 but if you have any concerns please contact us through Class Dojo.
